Cemetery Maintenance Operative

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and physically capable individual to join our Streetcare Team as a Cemetery Operative. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the maintenance of cemeteries across South Gloucestershire, ensuring that our burial grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare graves for funeral services, including covering excavated soil, placing boards, struts, and matting.
- Regularly check and remove water from prepared graves prior to burial.
- Maintain clear paths for funeral corteges, removing litter, debris, and obstructions.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with clergy, funeral directors, mourners, and visitors, upholding a dignified attitude.
- Backfill graves after funeral services, leaving them safe and clean for floral tributes.
- Undertake general grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, and pruning.
- Check and repair headstones, removing or making safe damaged ones, and carry out memorial maintenance as directed.
- Drive a council vehicle, depending on team allocation and task requirements.
Requirements
- Be physically capable of grave digging.
- Be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Hold a full driving licence (Group B or B+E).
- Have experience using powered hand tools in a grounds environment.
- Proven experience in a similar role or transferable experience.
