About the Role

The University of Bristol's Consultancy Services is seeking a highly skilled Contract Associate to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting and safeguarding our world-leading researchers in their collaborations with external partners.

The Consultancy Services team focuses on delivering high-quality consultancy projects across various sectors, including financial services, veterinary medicine, healthcare, cyber security, and policymaking. We are a rapidly growing team, and this is an excellent opportunity for you to join and grow with us.

This is a full-time position with options for hybrid working. As a member of our team, you will be based on campus during some of the week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising Internal and External Partners: You will provide expert guidance to internal and external partners on our consultancy services process and procedures.
  • Negotiating Terms and Conditions: You will use models and templates to negotiate terms and conditions, including price and intellectual property arrangements.
  • Drafting Consultancy Contracts: You will draft consultancy contracts on University templates using information gathered through liaison with contracting parties.
  • Reviewing and Analyzing Contracts: You will use your knowledge of law, contracts, and intellectual property to review amendments to University standard templates and provide initial analysis on whether these are within the University's usual negotiating position.
  • Liaising with University Teams: You will work closely with University of Bristol professional services teams to progress contract development to timely completion.
  • Providing Support and Guidance: You will answer queries from academics and external parties on the progress of their consultancy projects.
  • Improving Processes and Procedures: You will support the development and improvement of processes and procedures for consultancy to improve operational efficiency and quality of service provision.
  • Maintaining Accurate Records: You will maintain accurate records for Consultancy Services.
Requirements
  • Experience in Business and Administrative Support: You should have experience in business and administrative support with relevant experience of contract law.
  • Proficiency in Contract Structure and Terminology: You should have proficiency in legal contract structure, terminology, and practice gained through working with such documents.
  • Experience in Contract Drafting and Negotiation: You should have experience in the drafting and negotiation of contract terms.
  • Customer Focus and Relationship Development: You should have a clear understanding of the need and practice of customer focus and relationship development.
  • Analytical Capabilities: You should have well-developed analytical capabilities and the ability to interpret complex information.
  • Industrial and Academic Cultures: You should have a good understanding and appreciation of industrial and academic cultures and environments.
  • Organizational Skills: You should be a confident and organized self-starter who works well in fast-paced environments and responds well to shifting priorities.
