The London Assembly plays a critical role in overseeing the Mayor's decisions and investigating significant issues impacting London. Comprising 25 elected Assembly Members, the Assembly operates with the support of the Secretariat, which facilitates its functions. The Communications Team is responsible for promoting the Assembly's work through various channels, including media relations, social media, and public events.
About the Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to serve as the Research and Policy Manager for the Conservative Members of the London Assembly. The role focuses on delivering research and policy assistance to the Members of the Group, alongside managing the associated staffing team. Collaborating closely with the Head of Office, you will play a vital role in aiding Assembly Members with their responsibilities and ensuring accountability for the Mayor of London.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Providing daily management and leadership for the Senior Researchers within the team, ensuring effective workflow and productivity.
- Taking the lead on the preparation, publication, and associated activities of reports for elected Members, aligning with their priorities in key policy areas.
- Creating and executing comprehensive outreach and communication strategies for designated Assembly Members, coordinating with communications, research, and support colleagues.
- Ensuring that elected Members receive high-quality research services and policy support, while engaging with relevant external organizations across public, private, and voluntary sectors to foster an exchange of ideas.
- Acting as a key point of contact for GLA officers regarding London Assembly scrutiny activities related to Group Members, facilitating effective communication and maximizing Members' influence.
- Assisting the Head of Office in leading the broader team, providing problem-solving capabilities and ensuring successful delivery of team objectives.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
To be considered for this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:
- Extensive experience in a similar role within a political or high-profile environment, adept at resolving complex issues and liaising with external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, ensuring the successful implementation of policies and strategies.
- Capacity to produce clear and concise reports and research on intricate issues for diverse audiences, presenting information effectively for Assembly Members' use.
- Demonstrated experience in policy briefing within a political or public sector context, with strong research skills and the ability to synthesize information from various sources.
- A comprehensive understanding of current policy challenges facing London, along with knowledge of the legislative framework governing the GLA's operations.
