Role Overview:
The Transport Operations Supervisor is accountable for the effective implementation of transport strategies, ensuring that service level agreements (SLA) and key performance indicators (KPI) are consistently met.
This role involves designing and optimizing delivery routes to maximize vehicle efficiency while adhering to transport regulations, health and safety standards, and customer service expectations.
The primary objective is to guarantee timely and complete delivery of customer products using the most economical methods and best utilization of available resources, including managing driver schedules in compliance with current regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the planning of customer deliveries, ensuring that site planners utilize available software effectively to meet delivery timeframes.
- Maintain communication with customers regarding any delivery delays or potential issues.
- Develop backhaul opportunities with both internal depots and external clients while optimizing fleet usage.
- Coordinate late load reports in alignment with operational needs and deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with Working Time Directive regulations among drivers.
- Facilitate regular downloading of driver cards for performance analysis.
- Ensure adherence to transport legislation by site planners, aiming to minimize tachograph infringements.
- Communicate and coordinate with other depots regarding route management and delivery challenges.
- Source local agency drivers and subcontractors as necessary, providing clear job briefs.
- Ensure safety standards are met for all loads managed by site planners.
- Manage site planners to ensure optimal start times for operations.
- Conduct thorough pre-briefing and de-briefing sessions with drivers to ensure clarity of instructions and proper documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer information for all deliveries.
- Understand and communicate the agreed KPIs for the department.
- Perform other transport office duties as required.
- Ensure all drivers receive appropriate training and are familiar with operational procedures and equipment.
- Occasionally act as a deputy for the manager during operational meetings.
- Engage with driver agencies for additional support during peak periods.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:
- Strong people management capabilities.
- Experience in a fast-paced transport office environment.
- Understanding of drivers' hours, tachograph regulations, and Working Time Directive.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
- Good educational background.
- Proficient in IT applications.
- Awareness of health and safety protocols.
- Commercial acumen.
- Familiarity with transport management systems.
