Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Band 6 Paediatric Nurse to become an integral part of our supportive team within the Day Surgery Unit. This role focuses on providing exceptional care to both adult and paediatric patients undergoing a variety of procedures, catering to a diverse demographic. The primary responsibility will be to care for paediatric patients, alongside conducting pre-operative assessments, while also being prepared to assist with adult patients as needed, in collaboration with adult nursing colleagues.
Candidates must possess prior experience in Paediatric Nursing, ideally within a surgical context. The ideal applicant will be highly organized and genuinely passionate about enhancing the patient experience during their pre-operative assessment and stay in Day Surgery.
A strong team player is essential, as well as the ability to manage individual workloads in a fast-paced environment with a high patient turnover, ensuring timely admissions, assessments, and safe discharges.
Our Day Surgery Ward team collaborates closely with Theatres and Recovery, providing care for both elective and emergency surgical patients across all age groups.
Key Responsibilities
As a Nurse-led ward, we provide care for patients undergoing a range of procedures, from simple to complex, with same-day discharge. We ensure that each patient has a positive experience during what may be a challenging time in their lives.
Candidates should be adept at managing their workload in a dynamic environment, demonstrating effective multitasking abilities. A proactive mindset is crucial to meet patient needs while maintaining composure and delivering high-quality care.
You will play a vital role in supporting and developing our paediatric nursing staff in the competencies required for adult patient care.
Additionally, you will be part of the DSU Band 6 team, responsible for coordinating the ward and liaising with theatre coordinators to ensure the department operates smoothly.
Effective communication is paramount in all aspects of this role, whether gathering information from patients during assessments or discreetly informing external agencies involved in discharge planning, particularly when handling sensitive information. A commitment to providing excellent, high-quality patient care is essential.
