Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Are you dedicated to empowering young individuals?

Do you aspire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives?

Devon County Council is a prominent local authority committed to enhancing the lives of young people and adults with special educational needs (SEN), learning disabilities, and mental health challenges. We advocate for the rights of disabled individuals to engage fully in society, free from discrimination and unnecessary barriers.

We are excited to present an opportunity to join our team as an Employment Support Coach. If you possess experience in Careers, Education, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) and hold a valid British Driving Licence, we would be eager to hear from you.

What We Offer
In recognition of your dedication and enthusiasm, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • 28 days of paid annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays (pro rata for part-time roles), with increases after 3 and 5 years of service
  • Pension contributions
  • Support for work-life balance
  • Access to free occupational health, physiotherapy, counselling, and advisory services
  • Fully funded training and opportunities for nationally recognized qualifications
  • Travel assistance scheme (season ticket loan)
  • Access to an online shopping platform offering discounts from over 3,500 retailers
  • Referral program for friends

Who We Are Looking For
This position will be focused on delivering support through a combination of educational and work-related activities, both individually and in group settings.

Your Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Engage effectively with young individuals in the community to inspire and encourage their participation, ensuring project goals are met.
  • Facilitate employer engagement and provide in-work support to ensure sustainable integration into the job market for young people aged 16-24, particularly those with Education Health Care Plans (EHCP), including those with complex needs and those at risk of social exclusion.
  • Plan and deliver a person-centered accredited program that assists young people in overcoming personal challenges. This may include interventions such as confidence building, CV development, job searching, and interview preparation. Pathways to support their goals may involve travel training, community projects, health and wellness initiatives, cooking classes, supported work experiences, and job trials.
  • Have experience working in educational environments with young individuals who have special educational needs, including those with social and emotional behavioral challenges.
  • Possess strong IT and self-management skills, along with a flexible approach. You should also have the ability to market individuals or services, an understanding of the supported employment process, and basic knowledge of social enterprises.

We provide both formal and on-the-job training, with national specialists available to offer expert guidance on best practices, inclusion, quality, and health and safety, ensuring exceptional support and making a positive impact on people's lives. You will receive comprehensive induction training while working alongside experienced colleagues.

If you are passionate about making a difference and engaging with individuals, and if you are patient, empathetic, and an effective communicator, we would love to hear from you.

Devon County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful applicants in regulated activities will undergo appropriate vetting procedures and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
