The Role of a Highways Maintenance Trainee
In a nurturing learning environment, you will acquire the essential skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary to thrive as a Highways Maintenance Trainee. You will complete a Level 2 apprenticeship focused on the maintenance and repair of highways, roads, pavements, and street furniture, along with gaining insights into traffic management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learning to perform various construction tasks on Civil Engineering Projects
- Developing a range of construction skills, including groundworks, structural concrete, pavement construction, drainage, basic carpentry, and hard landscaping
- Conducting all tasks with diligence and safety, utilizing the correct tools, safeguards, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensuring a safe working system is established before commencing any tasks and halting work to inform management if conditions change
- Maintaining tools and equipment in good condition, securely storing them when not in use, and reporting any defects or issues to your supervisor
- Utilizing digital tools for site record keeping, workflow management, and task organization
- Committing to your studies to acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of a Highways Operative

Candidates should possess a minimum of GCSE level or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English. We are looking for individuals who are dependable, hardworking, and have a genuine interest in the construction sector. Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and grow are essential.
