Job Title: Lead Speech and Language Therapist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit. As a key member of our therapy team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Speech and Language Therapy service, ensuring effective delivery of high-quality patient care.

About the Role

You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide advanced specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Speech and Language Therapy team, ensuring effective delivery of the highly specialist SLT service.
  • Plan and prioritize a complex clinical caseload.
  • Provide advanced specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Take a lead role in diagnosis, problem formulation, and planning of rehabilitation programmes within the MDT.
  • Provide intervention as part of an MDT approach and lead and implement MDT service developments.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of interventions using valid and reliable outcome measures and adherence to UKROC Database measures.
  • Ensure effective and timely communication at all levels (with patients, families, the MDT, and external agencies).
  • Develop and deliver in-service education and training programme for the wider MDT.
  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights.

Person Specification

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Speech and Language Therapist who has a strong background in neurorehabilitation and a proven track record of leading and managing a multidisciplinary team. You will need to have a postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and be registered with the HCPC. You will also need to have experience of working at Band 7 level in a neurorehabilitation setting and have a strong understanding of the principles of neurorehabilitation and the role of the Speech and Language Therapist in this context.
