Associate Principal

Michigan School Public Relations Association

Professional Role, Grade 8

General Responsibilities:

The Associate Principal is responsible for spearheading and facilitating initiatives aimed at enhancing instructional quality and fostering professional development in partnership with Program Principals across all secondary educational programs. This role also involves assisting the Principal in managing educational programs and supervising staff to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Secondary School Administration or Career and Technical Education Administration
  • Valid certification as a Secondary School Administrator in Michigan, or eligibility to obtain such certification
  • Completion of coursework in administration, supervision, and instructional evaluation for secondary education
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching and/or administration, with a preference for experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE); at least 3 years of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred
  • Proficient in technology
  • Strong understanding and experience in implementing student intervention strategies and support systems; familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in CTE program enhancement and compliance with the Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) standards is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, visioning skills, effective communication (both verbal and written), organizational skills, budget management, and collaborative team skills are essential
  • Experience working with a diverse student population is preferred
  • Experience collaborating on continuous school improvement initiatives is preferred

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to maintain a positive educational environment in alignment with organizational policies and regulations
  • Deliver ongoing, high-quality professional development that positively influences classroom instruction and teacher effectiveness
  • Design professional development programs based on insights gained from regional, state, and national conferences, integrating academic content and 21st Century Skills into the existing CTE curriculum
  • Collaborate with assigned staff and Program Advisory Committees on all aspects of CTE programs, including budget management, personnel oversight, curriculum development, compliance, data analysis, program promotion, parent engagement, and student discipline
  • Assist the Principal in driving positive systemic changes and staff development to enhance Core Performance Indicators and Program Quality Measures, thereby improving instructional processes and student outcomes
  • Coordinate data collection for CTE student enrollment
  • Facilitate staff training for Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) self-review
  • Ensure CTE curriculum aligns with state standards and meets labor market demands
  • Provide administrative support and oversight for college articulation agreements and dual enrollment programs
  • Engage in state-sponsored training, meetings, and conferences to stay updated on OCTE policies and requirements
  • Assist in evaluating teaching and support staff in accordance with the approved evaluation framework
  • Develop and maintain positive public relations within the community and among stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other CTE staff to coordinate initiatives across the organization
  • Work with fellow Tech Center administrators to address student needs within the framework of Career and Technical Education
  • Support the Principal in the effective operation of the Tech Center and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned

Compensation:

Professional Salary Schedule, Grade 8. Minimum starting salary of $106,802, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
