Job Title: Asset Protection Engineer

This exciting engineering position based in York requires a diverse set of skills and experience. The purpose of this role is to provide professional engineering assurance and technical interface to evaluate external engineering proposals and review permanent and temporary works designs, working with the wider Asset Protection team to support safe and successful delivery of outside/third-party projects.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor, assess, and review all outside and third-party engineering schemes for compliance with Network Rail standards, procedures, and requirements.
  2. Manage the engineering approvals and consents required for the design and implementation of projects.
  3. Manage the mitigation of engineering and safety risk to the railway associated with proposed and real-time outside and third-party activities.
  4. Apply the concept of Requirements Engineering on applicable schemes, liaising with internal stakeholders and providing advice to the Project Interface lead.
  5. Facilitate outside and third-party scheme change, with analysis of risks and contingency within the specific project life cycle.
  6. Manage relevant engineering activities so that schemes support programme requirements for outside and third-party customers.
  7. Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and hazard identification and analysis techniques to allocated schemes.
  8. Carry out the duties of Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
  9. Undertake technical reviews of clearance proposals for the route, external planning applications, and land use changes by external parties.
  10. Monitor internal and external design/specialist consultants and contractors for outside and third-party schemes.
Requirements

Essential:

  • Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level in Civil Engineering.
  • Previous experience in the management of outside and third-party activities and mitigation of risk.
  • Successful relevant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas.
  • Significant knowledge of technical, safety, and performance standards.
