Nuclear Skills Academy Academic Reviewer

We are seeking an experienced Academic Reviewer to join our team at the Nuclear Skills Academy, a partnership between Rolls-Royce Submarines and the University of Derby. As an Academic Reviewer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and delivery of our apprenticeship programmes in nuclear engineering and science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a personal professional academic tutor, supporting and mentoring students to achieve their full potential.
  • Provide expert operational advice to the Apprenticeship Hub Team to support funding compliance and ensure the smooth delivery of our programmes.
  • Coordinate between apprentices, external clients, and internal academic operations teams to ensure seamless programme delivery.
  • Work with employers and external professional bodies to ensure that suitable evidence is available on the professional body's career development portal to enable students to progress and apply for the end-point assessment.
  • Ensure that apprentices are building a complete portfolio of experience in readiness for their End-Point Assessment (EPA) in accordance with apprenticeship guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the academic team and End-Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs) to ensure that apprentices are prepared for their EPA within the apprenticeship guidelines and to sign off that the apprentices have completed their e-portfolio.
  • Work with the Head of Apprenticeships, the Apprenticeships Hub, and Heads of School to provide an outstanding apprenticeship service to sponsors, learners, and employers.
Requirements
  • HNC/HND or similar qualification at Level 5 in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Electrical and Electronics / Nuclear Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Materials Science or Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
  • Honours degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Electrical & Electronics/Nuclear Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Materials Science or Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Professionally qualified to IEng or CEng with a suitable engineering professional institution.
  • Relevant work experience in the engineering sector related to the apprenticeship standard in the UK.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the engineering sector to have obtained a broad skills base in areas such as materials and manufacturing processes, computer-aided design and modelling, electrical and electronics, industrial control systems, operations management, nuclear operations, and computer-integrated manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable management/supervisory experience/leading staff teams.
  • Experience of working with employers in their workplace.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
  • A practical knowledge of current and emerging apprenticeship standards, EPA, and the Apprenticeship Levy.
  • Highly self-motivated with the confidence to work independently and willingness to take on varied responsibilities.
  • Highly organised and efficient with the ability to organise, plan, and prioritise in an often complex and demanding role.
  • Able to motivate and coach/mentor individuals both academics and students.
  • Numerically and financially literate with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Show commitment to first-class customer service and achieving high-quality outputs and outcomes.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people at all levels with the ability to gain the confidence, respect, and co-operation of senior figures both within the organisation and externally.
  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity.
