Job Summary:
Protocol Education is seeking a highly skilled Design Technology Specialist to join our team. As a Design Technology Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development of technology practical work to meet the teaching, student, and learning needs within our mainstream secondary school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Develop and prepare Design Technology practical work aligned with teaching objectives and supporting student learning.
- Resource Management: Manage and organize resources in the technology areas, ensuring materials and equipment are readily available for daily use and long-term projects.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with teaching staff to determine technical requirements related to the curriculum while ensuring health, welfare, and safety of staff and students in accordance with health and safety legislation.
- Maintenance and Support: Conduct routine maintenance of tools and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
- Technical Assistance: Assist in setting up equipment for class demonstrations and practical classes, supporting teachers and students during Design Technology lessons.
- Technical Advice: Provide technical advice and assistance to staff and students to create a conducive learning environment.
- Display and Organization: Maintain current displays showcasing students' project work and artifacts.
- Resource Preparation: Prepare and organize materials and resource packs for teacher and student projects.
- Digital Media: Assist in transferring student work to digital media when needed.
- Archiving and Inventory: Manage central archiving of teaching resources across all learning areas.
- Material Management: Advise staff on material stocks and inventory checks.
- Storage and Organization: Organize storage for tools, equipment, and student folders and project work.
- Material Procurement: Maintain stock levels and order materials and components when necessary.
- Budgeting and Costing: Collaborate with the Head of Design Technology to prepare budgetary forecasts and ensure departmental spending stays within budget constraints.
- Economic Viability: Ensure projects and materials are economically viable by conducting costings and obtaining approval from supervisors.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Experience and Knowledge: Experience in design technology practical work that meets teaching, student, and learning needs.
- Technical Requirements: Familiarity with technical requirements of the design technology curriculum.
- Health and Safety: Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation in the design technology field.
- ICT Skills: Strong ICT skills.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills to interact with staff and students.
- Initiative and Multitasking: Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Technical Qualifications: Relevant technical qualifications to support the role.
