Immunophenotyping Associate Practitioner

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

Job Overview

Position: Associate Practitioner Immunophenotyping (SIHMDS)
Band: 4

About Us
Barts Health NHS Trust aims to be a leading group of NHS hospitals, recognized for our commitment to excellence and innovation, providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in East London and beyond.

Main Responsibilities

Role Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Associate Practitioner to become part of our dynamic Immunophenotyping team, within one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. This newly established position is integral to our expanding service, which is part of the Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostics Service (SIHMDS). You will play a crucial role in the diagnostics of leukaemia, lymphoma, and other related haematological malignancies, serving a diverse population of over 3.5 million in North London and Essex. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with a forward-thinking and innovative laboratory that leads research and participates in national and international collaborations to shape the future of flow cytometry.

Working Environment
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organization delivering pathology services to various NHS Trusts. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health and operates on established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital serving as the main hub laboratory.

The Pathology Partnership encompasses several services, including Blood Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Cellular Pathology, Immunology, Cytogenetics, Molecular Haematology, Immunophenotyping, Clinical Transplantation, and Retinoblastoma.

In the 2020/21 fiscal year, the total operating costs across the Partnership were approximately £126 million, supported by a workforce of around 822 WTE. We are dedicated to our WeCare values and strive to foster an inclusive environment where every staff member feels a sense of belonging. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic candidates, as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

The Team
The Immunophenotyping department at Barts Health NHS Trust is looking for a confident and motivated Associate Practitioner to support our laboratory services. This key position will contribute to the development and delivery of our local and trust strategy. The Immunophenotyping department provides a comprehensive service for in-patients and operates a regional referral service. We are a progressive and busy department seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist in supporting our exceptional team. Candidates should have experience working in a pathology laboratory, be organized, and thrive under pressure. Our dedicated scientists and support staff work closely with consultant colleagues, ensuring that all staff are aware of their impact on the patient pathway and fostering strong links between laboratory and clinical specialties.

Technology & Equipment
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art next-generation flow cytometry facilities and maintains excellent collaborative relationships with industry partners, often beta testing the latest equipment. We are actively involved in translational research and offer a range of specialized manual assays.

Training and Development
We operate within an active teaching-hospital environment, providing a comprehensive range of IBMS accredited CPD activities and actively promoting professional development. The Immunophenotyping department is located in a purpose-built Pathology and Pharmacy Building at the Royal London Site, with full UKAS accreditation and HCPC/IBMS and NSHCS training status.

Network
The department is engaged in the expansion and development of the East and South East NHS Pathology Network, consolidating many specialized services on the Royal London Hospital site.

Additional Information
Thank you for considering a position with the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership. We wish you success in your application.
