Job Title: Principal Engineer - Nuclear Safety Specialist

Location: Flexible working with occasional travel to Barrow-in-Furness

Salary: Competitive

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Site Safety team, responsible for deterministic nuclear safety assessment and authoring of safety cases for the Dreadnought and future class submarines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct deterministic nuclear safety assessments for build and commission of submarines
  • Author safety cases, including results of deterministic and probabilistic analyses
  • Perform ALARP assessments of new and legacy facilities and equipment
  • Define, agree, and implement safety case requirements
  • Manage internal and external interfaces, including Engineering Authorities and regulatory bodies

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline (engineering or physical sciences)
  • Previous experience in safety analysis and safety case production for high hazard industries

Desirable:

  • Chartered engineer (or actively working toward this) desirable
  • Previous experience working for a nuclear site and/or on the submarine programme
  • Relevant nuclear and/or safety degree programmes at universities such as Heriot-Watt, Aberdeen, Cranfield, Strathclyde, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham
