Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highways Maintenance Operative to join our team at Colas Road UK. As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of tasks related to highway maintenance, including:

  • Carrying out routine maintenance tasks, such as gully emptying and street furniture repair
  • Responding to emergency situations, such as road accidents and weather-related incidents
  • Working with our team to deliver cyclical maintenance and reactive maintenance services
  • Participating in winter maintenance and severe weather response activities

Main Responsibilities

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking a range of highway maintenance activities, including gully emptying, winter maintenance, and sweeping and cleaning activities
  • Working closely with your team members to promote effective health and safety within the workplace
  • Ensuring defined safe systems of work and risk assessments are adhered to
  • Participating in incident management and winter service activities
  • Effectively using Colas Road UK plant and fleet, and ensuring all vehicles are checked safe before taking out in accordance with company policy
  • Working within Colas Road UK processes to effectively manage administrative tasks, such as timesheet collation and capturing plant, labour, and material use
  • Maintaining a professional approach and positively reflecting the image of Colas Road UK
  • Undertaking all other appropriate duties as assigned by your line manager or Ganger as required by the business

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A full clean UK driving license
  • A class C HGV with CPC is preferable
  • Any experience of highways maintenance and any relevant highways qualifications is desirable (VRS, TM, Gully Emptying, Soft Estate etc.)
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to work with initiative
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in high-pressure environments
