We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to become part of our team, operating from our Asphalt Plant in Manchester and supporting our Urban sites across the North West of England. This position involves a 48-hour work week from Monday to Friday, with additional overtime opportunities available.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Asphalt Plant Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in our 24/7 engineering operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

Executing scheduled and reactive mechanical maintenance tasks to ensure optimal plant performance and support production schedules. Completing tasks promptly, leading mechanical repairs to enhance plant reliability and minimize downtime. Managing small-scale projects effectively while maintaining a cost-conscious approach. Coordinating with contractors and suppliers during their on-site activities. Engaging in root cause analysis to eliminate recurring issues and contribute to the ongoing improvement of engineering practices. Working with risk assessments and method statements to ensure safety. Assisting in the development of safe working methods for repair procedures. Upholding Health & Safety regulations and promoting compliance with company policies. Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and practices through established procedures. Utilizing the computerized maintenance management system to document all maintenance activities, including fault descriptions and repairs.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate for the Mechanical Maintenance Technician role will be self-driven, enthusiastic, and capable of working independently. You should have proven experience in an industrial or factory setting.

Qualified candidates will possess:

A recognized apprenticeship (preferably at a higher level). ONC/HNC qualifications (desirable but not mandatory). A solid background in mechanical systems, particularly in heavy industry, including conveyors, motors, pumps, and gearboxes. Strong fault-finding skills to identify defects and recommend solutions. Proficiency in bearing removal and installation, along with welding and fabrication skills. The ability to perform emergency repairs efficiently on all production equipment. IT literacy, with the capability to use PCs and company systems effectively. An understanding of SHE risks associated with work activities and the ability to manage those risks. Familiarity with site-specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
