Senior Cost Consultant Position

A prestigious contractor specializing in heritage projects is in search of a seasoned Senior Cost Consultant to enhance their commercial division. This role is primarily site-based, focusing on high-quality refurbishment and fit-out projects.

Location:
Site-based role

Project Overview:
Engaged in a significant residential refurbishment project valued at £5m, set to commence shortly.

Reporting Structure:
Directly reporting to the Commercial Director

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and interpret tender documents and submissions from estimators.
  • Extract quantities from architectural plans and specifications, ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards.
  • Negotiate and finalize contract terms with subcontractors who specialize in heritage and conservation projects.
  • Oversee and manage project expenditures throughout the construction process, identifying and addressing variations and claims.
  • Prepare and present monthly cost and value reconciliations to assess project performance.
  • Compile and submit interim and final valuations to clients, including necessary documentation to support variation claims.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments to subcontractors through interim and final valuations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the project team, including site managers, architects, and engineers, to achieve project objectives within budget.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records and reports for effective cost management.
  • Stay informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in heritage and conservation construction.

Candidate Profile:
  • At least 5 years of experience as a cost consultant in the UK construction sector.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering projects on schedule and within budget, ideally in the heritage and conservation field.
  • Strong understanding of JCT contracts and experience with bespoke term contracts; familiarity with NEC contracts is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Project).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational abilities.
  • Preferably knowledgeable about heritage construction methods, materials, and specifications; training will be provided as needed.
  • A valid driving license is required.
