Principal Ornithologist

Avian Ecology Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Ornithologist to lead our team of ecologists and support the delivery of projects across the UK.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of UK bird species, ecology, and distribution, as well as demonstrable experience in advising clients on the ornithology requirements of their projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on own projects and support the existing team
  • Work closely with clients to provide clear advice and robust documentation
  • Liaise with planning authorities, statutory agencies, and stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate the team of ecologists and oversee sub-consultants
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of UK bird species, ecology, and distribution
  • Demonstrable experience in advising clients on ornithology requirements
  • Strong understanding of relevant and emerging UK-wide environmental/ecological policy and legislation
  • Experience in field ornithology, survey techniques, and technical review
