The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional clinical judgment and possess advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, including the management of both urgent and chronic health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner will:

  • Operate within their professional scope and adhere to the standards set by the regulatory body.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with undiagnosed acute illnesses or chronic conditions, encompassing a diverse patient demographic.
  • Conduct home visits when necessary for acute and chronic condition management.
  • Perform telephone triage and consultations, addressing patient inquiries effectively.
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment strategies for patients with complex health needs.
  • Order diagnostic tests and facilitate referrals as needed, ensuring a thorough handover in acute situations.
  • Interpret diagnostic findings and ensure appropriate follow-up care for patients.
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based, and individualized patient care while adhering to practice protocols.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with national guidelines and provide comprehensive information to patients regarding their treatment plans.

About Our Team

The Nurse Practitioner will be an integral member of the Shires Health Care team, collaborating closely with GPs and nursing staff to uphold the practice's policies and procedures while demonstrating clinical leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-registration experience.
  • Proven expertise in autonomous clinical practice, prioritization, and prescribing.
  • Experience in ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Strong team collaboration and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in General Practice, Out-of-Hours, or emergency care settings.
  • Experience managing long-term health conditions.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Experience in conducting in-practice diagnostics.
  • Effective staff management and mentorship capabilities.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.

Educational Requirements

Essential:

  • Registered General Nurse (NMC).
  • BSc or MA in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Certification as an Independent Prescriber.

Desirable:

  • Qualifications in teaching or mentorship.
  • Minor illness/injury certification.
  • Specialized training relevant to primary care.
  • Qualifications in contraceptive coil fitting or cervical smear testing.
  • Participation in leadership development programs.
