The Haematology Operational Manager is a key leadership position within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for providing strategic direction and management of non-clinical services within the Haematology Directorate.
Key Responsibilities- Provide leadership and management of non-clinical services, ensuring resources are available and deployed to meet activity and finance targets.
- Develop and implement plans for service developments in line with Trust and Commissioner requirements.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership team, Service Manager, and Matrons to ensure effective resource utilization and high standards of service delivery.
- Manage and monitor budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Lead and deliver service improvement initiatives, fostering effective working relationships with clinical teams.
- Develop and implement strategic service plans, aligning with Trust and Commissioner objectives.
- Extensive managerial experience in an acute hospital-based clinical service.
- Experience of managing an acute medical or clinical service to deliver 18-week and cancer activity targets.
- Staff management experience, including setting objectives, appraisal, recruitment, and disciplinary issues.
- Experience of leading and delivering service improvement or modernization initiatives.
- Experience of managing, monitoring, and controlling budgets.
- Ability to negotiate and influence staff at all levels of seniority.
- Ability to access, analyze, and translate complex data and information to facilitate service improvement.
- Experience of developing business cases/proposals for investment.
- Working at an AfC Band 7 level, operationally managing an admitting clinical Directorate.
- Experience of capacity planning in a Clinical Directorate.
- Experience of cancer tracking and cancer tracking processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work proactively and cooperatively with senior management and clinical staff.
- A clear understanding of personal values, including honesty and integrity, accountability, respect, and efficiency.
- A detailed understanding of clinical and corporate governance.
- A detailed knowledge of 18-week capacity and activity targets for clinical services.
- Ability to develop clinical capacity plans.
- Experience of using IT packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Evidence of report writing and presentation skills.
- A clear understanding of confidentiality when dealing with matters relating to staff and patients.
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize an unpredictable workload with frequent disruption.
- A flexible approach to work.
- An awareness of the political environment in which operating.
- Demonstrable self-awareness, an understanding of impact on others, and an ability to manage self and maintain professional conduct in difficult and challenging situations.
