AWE Plc is seeking a skilled and seasoned

Lead Software Engineer

to guide a team of software developers in the creation of an advanced battle modeling system.

This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with our Software Development team and collaborate with our broader Physics community, providing significant expertise, advocating for agile software development practices, and ensuring the overall integrity of the code.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement the vision set forth by the Software Capability Lead and provide constructive feedback on the vision when necessary.
  • Oversee the software development process to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Establish and uphold the framework of the code.
  • Assign tasks to software developers to facilitate adherence to agile methodologies.
  • Design and define software verification tests.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in software development.

Who We Are Looking For:
Ideal candidates will possess a degree in a relevant STEM field with a minimum classification of (2:1) or higher.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in software development and delivery, with a focus on time, quality, and cost management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing software development teams for complex projects.
  • Experience in developing software for scientific and/or engineering applications.
  • Proficiency in creating software that simulates the functions of physical systems or environments.
  • A minimum of 10 years of C++ development experience in an external industry setting.
  • Familiarity with C++ 11 and knowledge of FORTRAN, C#, SQL, and Python.
  • Experience with tools such as GitLab, Enterprise Architect, and Visual Studio.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Postgraduate qualification in computer science.
  • Working knowledge of C++ 20.
  • Experience in a science or technology-driven environment.
  • Background in developing software for scientific applications.
  • Experience with coding statistical methods, such as Monte Carlo simulations.
