About the Role

Westlakes Recruit is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of design solutions using AutoCAD / Inventor and directing engineers/designers in the production of complex design solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement design solutions using AutoCAD / Inventor
  • Direct engineers/designers in the production of complex design solutions
  • Produce simple calculations and direct engineers/designers in the production of complex calculations
  • Check the work of others to ensure design deliverables are produced to a high standard and compliant with all relevant internal and client procedures
  • Produce technical documents such as Basis of Design, Testing Strategies/Schedules, Method Statements, etc.
  • Take ownership of design deliverables throughout the design, construction, installation, commissioning, operations, and decommissioning phases of a project
  • Ensure the Design Intent is maintained
  • Produce and check CDM Risk Registers
  • Produce and check documentation required for Technical Files of new products/plant and equipment
  • Presentation of technical solutions to clients and others in both formal and informal settings
  • Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
  • Support in the development of project safety case, including HAZID and HAZOP attendance, production of basis of safety documents (Hazard Management Strategy), and engineering substantiation (design/engineering justification)
  • Develop estimates, deliverables required, and programme logic at bid/tender stage
  • Provide input into cost to complete
  • Manage a team of engineers/designers to deliver the engineering scope as required by the project
  • Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company's capabilities
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations
  • Produce and assess concessions and technical queries
  • Prepare and review quality plans for single discipline work packages
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Chartered Member of the IMechE (preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives and how they should be applied
  • Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to mechanical design
  • Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products/plant and equipment
  • Detail design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment for Nuclear use
  • Knowledge of relevant drawing standards BS8888, BS5070, and BS EN
  • Relevant experience in the Nuclear Industry
