Skydance is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Technical Director to join our growing team of innovators

As a Senior Technical Director, you will play a pivotal role in developing and supporting cutting-edge tools that empower our production teams to create exceptional animated films. Your expertise will be instrumental in implementing bespoke solutions that go beyond the capabilities of off-the-shelf software, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with artists and production management within active productions to understand their needs and provide tailored technical support.
  • Partner with artists and engineers to refine, debug, document, and iterate on tools and workflows that streamline the animation production process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for artists facing daily technical challenges, providing prompt and effective solutions.
  • Regularly communicate project progress, tool performance, production operations, and support status to the TD Supervisor.
  • Continuously analyze user experiences, satisfaction levels, and comprehension of production pipelines to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Stay abreast of emerging artistic methodologies and technological advancements in the industry, evaluating their potential impact on our productions and creative environment.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering their artistic and technical growth through knowledge sharing and collaborative learning.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in the VFX or animation industries.
  • 3+ years of experience specifically within the animation industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • In-depth understanding of 3D animated film production pipelines and workflows (both artistic and technical).
  • Expert proficiency in Python programming.
  • Proven experience developing tools for Maya, Houdini, and Nuke software.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • C++ development experience is a significant advantage.
  • Experience working with version control systems (Git).
  • Knowledge of Renderman and Arnold is highly desirable.
  • Ability to effectively document digital processes and technical solutions.
  • Practical understanding of continuous delivery and agile methodologies.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, consistently seeking innovative solutions and process improvements.
  • Strong English communication skills are essential.
