Are you an engineering professional dedicated to the oversight and preservation of essential infrastructure? The Southern Region Asset Management Team is seeking an Asset Engineer specializing in Structures to play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity and sustainability of our structural assets.
As an Asset Engineer [Structures], your contributions will be vital in implementing asset management strategies within the structures domain. Your knowledge will facilitate the inspection, evaluation, and monitoring of structural assets across our network, ensuring compliance with both regulatory and corporate standards. Collaboration with diverse teams will be key as you provide engineering insights, assist in scheme development, and support the continuous improvement of our infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and oversee assessments of structural assets, evaluating reports in line with established policies and standards. Implement necessary mitigation strategies for deferred management actions.
- Identify and prioritize actions to rectify defects or limitations identified in reports, ensuring alignment with standards for inclusion in work plans. Manage the development and execution of prioritized tasks to achieve desired outcomes.
- Conduct engineering assessments and risk analyses of assets to support asset management processes and scheme development, including comprehensive business cases and life cycle cost evaluations.
- Monitor asset condition and capability trends, analyzing data to inform maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation, and renewal strategies that align with corporate objectives.
- Assist in the specification and development of enhancement initiatives while managing interfaces with network capability programs.
- Collaborate with the central structures team to promote best practices and contribute to the formulation and refinement of functional policies and standards.
- Assess and determine necessary actions to mitigate the effects of adverse weather on structural asset performance.
- Maintain accurate records and data regarding structural assets within company systems.
- Support the evolution of national standards related to structures asset management.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives for buildings and civil engineering, including input into the Control Period bid process and negotiations with regulatory authorities.
- Provide engineering support and engage in investigations related to structural incidents.
- Evaluate proposals from other disciplines or external entities that may affect structural assets or work programs, identifying potential synergies or conflicts.
- Facilitate the review and approval process for abnormal vehicular and rail loads.
- Oversee the technical development of projects, ensuring renewal requirements are adequately defined and agreed upon with the Regional Asset Manager. Assist in the preliminary approval of designs and manage the acceptance of detailed design certifications.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Extensive relevant experience in structural or civil engineering.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering policies and standards.
- Knowledge of structural assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
- Progress towards membership in a relevant professional institution.
Desirable:
- Degree in a relevant discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status.
- Membership in a relevant professional institution.
