Assistant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

The successful candidate will work within the Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT) in Haringey Integrated Learning Disabilities Service (HILDS). AIT is a multi-disciplinary team that works with individuals with learning disabilities who have complex challenging behaviour and/or mental health issues and are currently at risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission.
The Assistant Psychologist will be based in the Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT) working with adults at risk of hospital admission due to mental health crises or severe behaviour escalation.
Job Responsibilities- Working in a multi-disciplinary team with adults with learning disabilities and the large networks around them.
- Utilizing psychological assessment and evidence-based intervention to improve outcomes for adults at risk of hospital admission.
- Assistant psychologists (AP) in this post work jointly with AIT nursing colleagues to complete person-centred assessments and interventions that improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities.
- Working with large networks around a person, the AP will utilize systemic thinking and knowledge to engage the network.
- Tasks can include using a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework to understand behaviours of concern and inform PBS plans.
- Drawing on CBT and other therapeutic approaches to offer psychological interventions for those experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Supporting the development of robust risk assessments and crisis and contingency plans and liaising with relevant partners to manage crisis presentation.
- Contributing to multi-disciplinary formulation sessions using the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF).
- Upper Second Class or higher degree in Psychology.
- Graduate membership of BPS.
- Further qualification in psychological assessment or treatment.
- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities or mental health difficulties.
- Experience of Positive Behaviour Support.
- Knowledge of Transforming Care Agenda.
- Experience of direct paid care work.
- Understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of psychological theory and practice relevant to people with learning disabilities.
- Graduate level experience in research methodology.
- Knowledge of national policies with regard to learning disabilities and adult mental health.
- Ability to manage emotionally charged situations sensitively.
- Ability to maintain concentration for sustained periods as part of clinical observations and assessments.
