Job Title: Specialist Podiatrist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Podiatrist to join our team at Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. As a Specialist Podiatrist, you will be responsible for providing specialist podiatric clinical input to patients with diabetes, dealing with foot ulceration, infection, and other complications of the diabetic foot.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist podiatric clinical input to patients with diabetes, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of foot ulceration, infection, and other complications.
  • Manage patients presenting with vascular problems and wound management/tissue viability issues.
  • Provide care for patients presenting with chronic disease, such as rheumatology conditions and infectious diseases.
  • Treat conditions such as foot ulcers, calluses, and corns, skin conditions, and infections in the initial stages, and refer to local providers for routine interventions.
  • Manage toenail abnormalities to aid mobility and refer for complex foot surgery as appropriate.
  • Identify and treat musculoskeletal problems using bio-mechanical assessment and gait analysis.
  • Order clinical investigations, including X-Rays, and prescribe medications to treat infection.
  • Provide podiatric care to the patient's residual limb, offering an appropriate range of interventions similar to those undertaken on the contra-lateral foot.

Person Specification:

  • The aetiology of conditions that can cause amputation and an understanding of the medical conditions encountered due to multi-pathology in patients requiring amputation.
  • The application of core and specialist Podiatry skills in the treatment of patients with lower limb amputation.
  • The application of treatment techniques to the contralateral/remaining limb and the residual limb/amputation stumps.

Essential Criteria:

  • Working with patients who have undergone amputation in a ward setting and an out-patient environment, carrying out assessment and treatment.
  • Evidence of treating high-risk patients and complex foot pathologies.
  • Experience of treating high-risk wounds using advanced debridement skills.

Technical Skills Competencies:

  • The assessment and treatment of patients with complex foot pathology.
  • The ability to undertake intricate work using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments.

Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Podiatry.
  • HPCP Registration.
  • Local Anaesthetics Certificate.
