About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Haulage Officer to join our Waste Contracts and Haulage Team at Leicestershire County Council.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Haulage Operations service, ensuring the service for our directly operated Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTSs) is efficient, effective, and delivers value for money.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing high-value haulage and waste-related contracts
  • Developing and implementing strategies to optimize efficiency savings and improve services
  • Leading a small team of staff to achieve operational excellence
  • Providing technical advice to senior managers and elected members
  • Ensuring compliance with waste management legislation

The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, with extensive experience in haulage service management and service development. They will possess a commercial approach, good financial management and problem-solving skills, and be able to work effectively in a team environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A relevant degree or significant experience in managing waste transport services
  • Proficiency in budget management, forecasting, and reporting
  • Skills in managing and developing teams, including operational staff
  • Demonstrable ability in writing and interpreting technical and non-technical reports
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills
