Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom The City of Edinburgh Council Full time
Job Overview

Department: Children, Education and Justice Services
Position: Women's Justice Support Specialist
Salary: £30,751 - £36,312
Hours: 36 hours per week

The City of Edinburgh Council is dedicated to delivering exceptional services while maintaining a compassionate approach for individuals accessing our support systems and prioritizing staff wellbeing.

We provide extensive training to facilitate ongoing professional development and to implement a diverse array of interventions, including recognized accredited group work programs.

Our services are guided by Trauma Informed Care, Safe & TogetherTM, and Restorative Justice methodologies, ensuring a holistic approach to support.

We have established a dedicated Women's Centre, designed to eliminate barriers and cater to the unique needs of women engaged with the Justice System.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Willow Services, operating from the Women's Justice Centre, where we provide trauma-informed, gender-responsive services aligned with evidence-based principles.

Women aged 18 and older may access our services either through statutory orders or voluntarily, including those eligible for support due to their partner's or ex-partner's involvement with the Caledonian system.

The multidisciplinary team comprises support workers, social workers, psychologists, nursing professionals, and key third-sector partners, all collaborating to deliver a comprehensive range of interventions and support to women in an integrated manner.

This includes both individual and group work interventions, as well as community outreach initiatives.

The successful candidate will engage in a wide array of services alongside colleagues from various disciplines.

We seek an experienced professional with a profound understanding of the justice system and the specific challenges faced by women.

Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges and those affected by complex trauma is essential, along with knowledge of best practice approaches.

The role necessitates experience in risk assessment and management, familiarity with various legal frameworks within the justice system, and adherence to adult support and protection legislation.

This position is exclusively open to female candidates due to an Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010.

As this role involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults, the preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.

Individuals who have spent a continuous period of three months or more outside the UK in the last five years will need to provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check.

An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the role will be contingent upon the satisfactory outcome of these pre-employment checks.

We are committed to fostering a workplace culture where all employees feel valued, included, and empowered to perform at their best. We recognize the advantages that a diverse workforce brings to our organization.

To enhance our organizational culture and create an exceptional workplace for the residents of Edinburgh, we aim to attract the best candidates, not only based on their skills and experience but also on their approach to work.

To achieve this, we are transitioning from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioral and technical skills-based assessment.

This new interview methodology will allow us to evaluate how candidates think and how they would embody our core values of Respect, Integrity, and Flexibility in their work.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and increases annually until it reaches the top of the range.
