Senior Litigation Counsel Opportunity at Sotheby's

Sotheby's is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Litigation Counsel to join its Compliance and Litigation team. As a key member of the team, you will provide expert legal advice and support on contentious matters in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on and resolve contentious matters arising from Sotheby's business, including contractual disputes, title disputes, and debt recovery matters.
  • Undertake risk assessments to identify potential issues and provide proactive advice on risk factors related to the sale of property at auction and through private sale.
  • Report to senior management on potential financial exposure and seek corporate governance approvals as required.
  • Manage and instruct external counsel in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and oversee legal spend.
  • Provide advice to Specialist Departments and Support Departments across the business, working closely with the Finance and Press Departments.
  • Act on behalf of the Company in connection with enquiries and disclosure requests from law enforcement, regulators, and other competent authorities.
  • Support and supervise more junior members of the Compliance and Litigation team.
Requirements:
  • Approximately five years post-qualification experience in a dispute resolution practice area at a leading UK commercial law firm.
  • Admittance to practice in England and Wales is essential.
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills, with advanced communication and presenting skills.
  • Ability to assess and balance commercial and regulatory risks, think strategically, and provide clear guidance on contentious issues.
  • Excellent relationship management and people skills, with a team player mentality.
  • Professional and calm manner, with the ability to work independently and accommodate other time zones.
