Within the Care and Rehabilitation Services framework, our philosophy emphasizes the rehabilitation of individuals and their preparation for reintegration into society. We strive to create a prison environment that mirrors community life, ensuring safety for both staff and inmates while minimizing stressors associated with incarceration. A key element of our approach is fostering respectful and supportive relationships between staff and inmates.

We are seeking a Catholic Spiritual Advisor to oversee the delivery of worship and religious education for all faiths, while also serving as a spiritual guide, offering pastoral care and support to inmates, staff, and their families as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and deliver opportunities for worship, study, and religious programs.
  • Contribute to the development of local policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide mentoring and personal support for fellow chaplains and volunteers, especially following critical incidents.
  • Be part of the continuous provision of accessible chaplaincy care.
  • Plan and lead worship and faith-specific gatherings.
  • Nurture chaplaincy volunteers in their roles.
  • Coordinate services provided by contractors and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with other chaplains and management on the maintenance and provision of worship facilities.
  • Ensure the community is informed about relevant religious events and coordinate support for these occasions.
  • Offer pastoral care to inmates and assist in crisis resolution when necessary.
  • Acquire and distribute appropriate religious literature and materials.
  • Contribute to training programs and materials for staff and volunteers.
  • Proactively establish connections with local faith communities and agencies, exploring their involvement in mentoring inmates upon release.
  • Participate in developing strategies to enhance service delivery indicators.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering Faith Awareness Training for staff.
  • Take responsibility for personal spiritual health and development, allowing time for private reflection and study.
  • Provide appropriate support to the establishment in the absence of the managing chaplain.
  • Actively engage in the Assessment, Care in Custody, and Teamwork (ACCT) process.
  • Attend relevant meetings and contribute as a team member or chair.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be an ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church, possessing formal endorsement from the appropriate Diocesan Bishop or Religious Superior, along with an agreement to serve in a specific diocese (evidence required prior to appointment). Alternatively, candidates may be ordained deacons, religious brothers/sisters, or laypersons.
