Position Overview

The Property Solicitor position is integral to the Property team within our Legal Services Department. This team plays a crucial role in managing a varied property portfolio that encompasses operational waste and water facilities, office spaces, grazing lands, residential properties, renewable energy initiatives, environmental projects, and telecommunications infrastructure. The team is responsible for preserving and enhancing the value of the Company's estate and its long-term revenue streams. This includes overseeing the acquisition and disposal of properties and land, as well as managing a lettings portfolio.

• Deliver, manage, and enhance the Company's conveyancing services and processes.
• Mitigate risks in alignment with Company strategy while adhering to legal, statutory, and regulatory obligations, ensuring the protection of the Company's interests in land.
• Draft all necessary legal documentation in compliance with the aforementioned requirements.
• Actively promote and uphold Southern Water's core policies, ensuring excellent customer relations and enhancing processes to improve customer satisfaction.
• Engage with third parties and stakeholders, including property owners, developers, external solicitors, and HMLR.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders, providing essential expertise and demonstrating excellent communication skills.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will provide expert advice on property-related matters, negotiate and finalize all legal agreements related to acquisitions, disposals, leases, easements, sewer requisitions, diversions, and adoptions. This role includes managing a caseload of both transactional and advisory matters, aiming to secure income through legal fees for the Company.

• Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with approximately 2-5 years of post-qualification experience.
• Previous experience in commercial property is preferred.
• Experience in a utility company setting is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with property litigation is a plus.
• Knowledge of the Water Industry Act 1991 is desirable.
