Job Overview

The position of the Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) involves delivering a highly specialized Speech and Language Therapy service to individuals with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs within a collaborative multi-disciplinary team framework, specifically the Liaison & Diversion Service. This role is situated within the Community Forensic Care Group, focusing on adults and young individuals navigating the Criminal Justice System. The clientele may present with Mental Health challenges, Personality Disorders, Neurodiversity, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, often accompanied by co-existing Speech, Language, and Communication Needs.

This role necessitates a significant level of clinical and professional proficiency to ensure that the population receives a well-coordinated, proactive, specialized, efficient, and effective SLT service. Responsibilities encompass individual assessment, diagnosis, therapy, management, training, and consultation.

To independently manage the assessment, formulation, and treatment of a specialized clinical caseload, ensuring adherence to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists' Position Paper and Quality Guidelines. To facilitate access to speech and language therapy services. To develop and implement the 5 Good Communication standards. To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at designated forums as necessary. To collaborate as an essential member of a multi-disciplinary team across various agencies and settings to enhance communication opportunities for clients. To oversee the mentoring, supervision, and management of junior speech and language therapists, assistant therapists, and students as required.

Qualifications, Training, Experience & Knowledge

Essential Qualifications

Recognized SLT Degree/diploma. Portfolio of relevant post-qualification Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Proven experience in assessing and managing a complex caseload. Experience in effective multi-disciplinary and agency collaboration. Experience in designing and delivering diverse learning and development opportunities. Experience in implementing environmental approaches. Experience in developing evaluation and audit tools. Highly specialized applied knowledge of working with adults with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN). Familiarity with Speech Language Communication tools, assessments, and interventions pertinent to the client group. Understanding of National Policy and guidance and its implications for local practice. Registration with RCSLT and HCPC.

Desirable Qualifications
