Position Overview
The objective of this position is to spearhead a series of swift evidence assessments and knowledge dissemination initiatives aimed at providing evidence-based public health recommendations. You will oversee a dedicated review team, employing systematic and rapid review techniques, which include study screening, data extraction, critical evaluation, and evidence integration. Your team will generate reviews and various outputs across a spectrum of topics based on established priorities, utilizing software tools such as Endnote, Rayaan, and Microsoft Teams. The team will operate according to set priorities and in a responsive manner, with review completion timelines ranging from several days to several weeks. You will engage in methodological advancements, such as developing critical appraisal instruments, and lead the formulation and application of strategies to facilitate evidence translation, including crafting tailored evidence messages and producing evidence summaries to ensure outputs are timely and beneficial.
Additionally, you will assist others in producing or commissioning evidence reviews, sharing methodologies, tools, and guiding the creation of robust and standardized outputs. You will collaborate in a matrix style with colleagues involved in providing advice and guidance, both at national and local levels, as well as with external partners engaged in evidence synthesis activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the execution of rapid evidence reviews and other outputs, ensuring they are meticulously planned, delivered punctually, to high-quality standards, and in an efficient manner.
- Collaborate with colleagues in advisory, guidance, or policy roles to pinpoint priority topics and formulate answerable questions.
- Establish and adhere to a standardized process for producing rapid evidence reviews and other outputs, such as evidence summaries and briefings.
- Guarantee the quality of work through internal and external quality assurance measures, including internal quality assurance processes and independent peer review.
- Oversee the publication of rapid evidence reviews, coordinating with the communications team and guidance colleagues, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Ensure that evidence is delivered in a timely and useful manner, while maintaining robustness and transparency.
- Identify and communicate research gaps to facilitate the generation of new evidence.
- Engage expert and topic advisors in the evidence review processes, and initiate advisory groups as necessary.
- Develop and implement standardized rapid review methodologies applicable across the organization.
- Create mechanisms to collect user feedback and utilize this information to enhance the quality and usability of outputs.
- Provide support and guidance to others involved in evidence reviews, ensuring the methodological integrity of their work.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
You will be evaluated based on the following essential criteria:
- Possession of a first degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific or technical field.
- Strong critical and analytical scientific skills, including experience in scientific literature review and application of basic epidemiological and statistical knowledge.
- Understanding of quality assurance protocols and adherence to best practice processes.
- Experience in project management with an understanding of the necessity for timely delivery amidst competing priorities, always maintaining professionalism.
- Ability to use initiative to determine relevant actions and make recommendations to management aimed at enhancing deliverables.
- Exceptional communication skills (both written and oral), with strong writing abilities to summarize scientific issues for diverse audiences and effective oral skills to represent the team in various settings.
