Closing Date
Job Title: Capital Project Planner
Location: Hybrid (2 days in the office, with occasional site inspections)
Work type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Circa £50K per annum
Are you eager to contribute significantly to our project teams?
In the role of Capital Project Planner, you will serve as the subject matter expert in schedule management. Utilizing Primavera P6, you will create, maintain, and oversee programme schedules, ensuring the identification of emerging trends and conducting critical path analysis. Your involvement will span ongoing projects and programmes, assisting the delivery team with realistic schedules while also preparing for the next AMP (5-year investment period), where you will have the exciting opportunity to lead new projects.
As part of a collaborative and supportive PMO team, you will work alongside a core group of 10 programme controllers and various stakeholders within the project team. Your background in planning and scheduling within the construction sector, along with your experience with NEC contracts, will enable you to effectively understand the resources and costs associated with schedules and analyze monthly schedule movements. Your primary stakeholders will include the capital project delivery teams in both Water and WasteWater, as well as key contacts within our engineering team and contractors.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Developing programme schedules in accordance with established best practices and reporting structures specific to Southern Water.
- Conducting detailed programme analysis and providing actionable recommendations.
- Managing complex and interrelated project schedules, including resource allocation, risk management, cost-loaded programmes, and earned value analysis.
- Establishing programme schedule baselines to monitor and manage performance against gateway milestones and regulatory requirements.
- Aiding in the standardization and optimization of reporting processes, including continuous improvement of tools and methodologies.
- Producing project-specific programme summary reports and insights to support informed business decision-making.
- Reviewing contractor-submitted programmes for compliance, summarizing findings, and presenting necessary actions to the project team.
- Coordinating and managing stakeholder communications to ensure consistent and clear information regarding programme schedules.
To excel in this position, you should have a proven track record in project planning and control, demonstrating strong knowledge in data and process management. As an expert user of P6 and other project portfolio management software, you will possess a solid understanding of the NEC suite of contract conditions and experience within a PMO planning function. Your background in project management should include familiarity with APM/Prince II methodologies and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
You will have experience across a complex project delivery cycle and a commitment to continuous improvement. A confident communicator, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders, showcasing excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to teamwork. Given the nature of the workload, flexibility is essential, along with the ability to self-motivate and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
Ideally, you will hold a degree in civil engineering or construction, or possess demonstrable experience in a similar role, complemented by relevant professional development courses, such as Course 102: Project Management in Primavera P6. Water sector experience and chartered status with a relevant professional body would be highly advantageous.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply.
