Position Overview

As part of our ongoing growth, Ross-Shire Engineering Limited is seeking a skilled Cost Estimator to become a vital member of our Water Technologies division. In this role, you will be responsible for developing precise cost assessments and competitive bids that contribute to the sustainability of our business by securing essential contracts. Your responsibilities will include calculating and preparing bid submissions while collaborating with the broader Estimating team to optimize business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging with clients and their representatives to understand project requirements.
  • Analyzing tender documents to evaluate scope, associated risks, and complexity, providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaborating proactively with fellow Estimating Team members.
  • Preparing detailed Bills of Quantities and material take-offs, including pricing.
  • Creating inquiry schedules for the scope of work and necessary packages derived from tender documentation, drawings, and specifications for subcontracted scopes.
  • Working closely with Project Engineers, Site Managers, and Planners to accurately assess project deliverables and timelines.
  • Determining output and production rates to evaluate progress and completion, accounting for risks and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Calculating a comprehensive estimated cost, including adjustments for overheads and profit, and presenting a finalized tender price breakdown.
  • Pricing tenders in accordance with established Framework Schedules of Rates and Prices, as necessary.
  • Understanding contract terms and conditions, assessing costs for insurances, warranties, bonds, and performance penalties.
  • Participating in tender price review meetings alongside the Tender Team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing support and coordination with various disciplines, including Directors, Managers, Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Design Coordinators, and Buyers.
  • Delivering compliant tender documentation to meet business timelines and client return dates, organizing tender review meetings, and preparing necessary documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an Estimating role, with a background in process-related environments being beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications for accurate documentation preparation.
  • Capability to understand project sequencing and schedules.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to attend meetings and visit client sites as required, which may involve travel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Possession of a valid UK Driving Licence.
