Are you ready to make a significant impact in the field of Actuarial Pricing? We are seeking a dedicated professional to lead Markel Corporation's Actuarial Pricing division. This role involves spearheading project initiatives related to case pricing, tool innovation, and M&A efforts, while also setting strategic objectives, managing resources, prioritizing tasks, and reviewing essential deliverables.

Our team, consisting of 31 skilled professionals, provides actuarial support across various international locations. While primarily based in London, our operations allow for remote work and collaboration with other offices.

We engage with nearly all departments within the organization, as well as colleagues in the US and other global locations. Travel may be required for office visits and conferences, both internally and externally.

As the Actuarial Pricing Director, you will play a crucial role in all facets of the Markel Corporation Actuarial team related to pricing and profitability. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the analysis of product line profitability and individual account assessments.
  • Designing pricing tools for both actuarial and underwriting applications.
  • Validating rating structures and providing insights to enhance profitability and growth across various business segments.
  • Assisting in the drafting of Solvency II Opinions and collaborating with the capital modeling team to ensure appropriate parameterization focused on business needs.
  • Utilizing statistical data to establish reliable risk estimates through appropriate actuarial methodologies.
  • Effectively communicating actuarial findings to both actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Documenting processes, assumptions, methodologies, and results of actuarial analyses.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Extensive experience in technical pricing, including case pricing for large accounts and development of rating models.
  • Experience in portfolio management and the development of relevant metrics.
  • Knowledge of actuarial components in business planning and underwriting risk parameterization, with the ability to collaborate with departments such as Finance and Underwriting.
  • Awareness of current market practices and advancements in pricing and portfolio management.
