COWI is seeking a highly experienced Technical Director to lead our Geotechnical discipline and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for sustainable infrastructure projects.

About the Role

As a Technical Director, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership across a range of current projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical deliverables, and mentoring and developing engineering staff in your areas of expertise.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams, ensuring the application of best practice and technical innovations.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, including developing and delivering training, knowledge-sharing activities, and succession planning.
  • Promote COWI's position as a leading name in the industry through involvement in relevant industry bodies, technical publications, and facilitating the same in others.
  • Support the pursuit of business development opportunities and input into bids and tenders as required.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Chartered Engineer status, with CGeol or CEng (or equivalent).
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Ideally an MSc in either Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering (with significant Geotechnical ability and experience).
  • Proven experience in a similar role with technical, commercial, and business development and line management responsibilities, ideally working in the rail and highways environments.
  • Expertise in a design environment working on major or complex geotechnical projects in the UK or internationally at a senior/leadership level.
  • Knowledge of the application of ground engineering standards, particularly EC7 Geotechnical Design.
  • A good understanding of construction and site processes, particularly earth moving and construction of earth structures; materials engineering; foundations for a wide range of structures; piling construction methods and types; highway pavements; rail track beds; hard standing; and ground improvement methods.
