Position: Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for the Gender Service
Type: Permanent, full-time (part-time and secondments considered)
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to establishing a new Gender Service for Children and Young People in the South West.
This position is ideal for a psychiatrist with a strong background in child development, neurodiversity, and adolescent mental health, who values reflective practice and collaborative teamwork. The consultant will play a key role in providing high-quality clinical services while also contributing to the leadership and strategic growth of the service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting triage of referrals within a multi-professional environment.
- Providing local area consultations and pre-referral advice as needed.
- Collaborating with senior psychological staff for joint assessments.
- Performing comprehensive evaluations using established clinical methodologies.
- Assisting in the formulation of care plans based on clinical judgment and prioritization.
- Coordinating with other healthcare professionals and social care teams to ensure appropriate patient care.
- Offering consultation and support to the multidisciplinary team, including complex case management and risk assessment.
- Conducting holistic consultations tailored to the needs of children and young people, including their social, educational, and health backgrounds.
- Actively participating in the multidisciplinary team to develop individualized care strategies for each young person, focusing on mental health and related needs.
- Effectively communicating complex information with sensitivity to young patients and their families, as well as collaborating with children's social care when necessary.
