Position Overview
Markfield Medical Centre is looking to recruit a Part-time Patient Care Support Specialist for approximately hours per week. The specific hours and days will be determined in collaboration with the selected candidate.
The ideal applicant will possess an NVQ level 3/QCF level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or an equivalent qualification, along with experience in Primary Care, Secondary Care, or community settings.
As a rural practice serving a patient population of 7100, Markfield Medical Centre is committed to delivering a friendly, patient-centered service, as evidenced by our positive patient survey results. We maintain a well-organized practice with high Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) achievements and enjoy a strong reputation within the community.
This role offers a fulfilling and diverse experience, making it suitable for individuals who are enthusiastic, driven, and effective team players.
Key Responsibilities
The following are the primary duties of the Patient Care Support Specialist. Additional tasks may be assigned based on workload and staffing needs:
- Conduct initial health assessments for new patients
- Assist the practice nurse with health promotion initiatives
- Perform baseline health checks, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, ensuring accurate documentation of findings
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, providing guidance to patients as necessary
- Carry out wound care, dressing changes, and other clinical tasks as required
- Support the practice nurse in managing chronic disease clinics
- Execute Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments as directed
- Serve as a chaperone when needed
- Perform venepuncture
- Administer flu vaccinations and other immunizations under Patient Specific Directions (PSDs)
- Conduct electrocardiograms (ECGs) as requested
- Ensure specimens are properly recorded and prepared for transportation
- Provide assistance during minor surgical procedures as required
- Maintain clinical rooms, ensuring they are adequately stocked and ready for each session
- Regularly clean fridges in accordance with current guidelines and perform temperature checks
- Ensure clinical waste is disposed of properly and sharps bins are replaced following the organization's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion when appropriate
About Markfield Medical Centre
Markfield Medical Centre is a rural practice dedicated to serving 7100 patients. We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, patient-centered service, reflected in our positive patient survey results. Our practice is well-organized, achieving high QOF standards and maintaining a strong local reputation. Our facility includes a purpose-built building with an adjoining pharmacy.
Our team consists of 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 10 receptionists, secretaries, and administrators, 2 Healthcare Assistants, 2 Practice Nurses, a Lead Prescribing Nurse, a Pharmacist, and a Clinical Practitioner. We strive to deliver a wide range of services to our patients within the primary care setting.
This role is both rewarding and varied, ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, and a collaborative team member. We seek candidates with experience and confidence in face-to-face patient interactions, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. This Patient Care Support Specialist position is evolving within the practice, so a willingness to learn and a flexible approach are essential.
Job Responsibilities
The Patient Care Support Specialist will assist the practice nursing and administrative teams in delivering clinical and administrative services, working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team to provide care to the entitled patient population.
The role involves delivering and supporting clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education, while also assisting the administrative team as needed.

Qualifications
Essential
- Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or actively pursuing an equivalent level
- Proficiency in performing ECGs
- Experience in venepuncture
- Capability to conduct new patient medical assessments
- Familiarity with chaperone procedures
- Ability to accurately document clinical notes
Desirable
- Completion of the HCA Care Certificate as outlined in GP Mythbuster No 57 - HCAs in General Practice
- Certification in vaccination administration
- Experience in wound care and suture removal
