Job Summary

The postholder will undertake BCG vaccinations in community clinic settings, providing essential immunisation services to eligible babies across North East London.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver intradermal BCG vaccinations to eligible babies in community clinic settings.
  • Conduct clinical assessments of eligible babies and administer the BCG vaccination.
  • Advise parents and carers on the BCG vaccine, including aftercare of the site.
  • Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse, adhering to local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines.
  • Maintain statutory and mandatory training records, including BLS, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation.
  • Provide support, mentorship, guidance, and supervision to junior staff members.
  • Promote and facilitate collaborative working with parents, carers, and families of eligible children, as well as stakeholders, to provide a coordinated service for the community.
  • Maintain legible, contemporaneous records, safeguarding confidentiality.
  • Comply with relevant regulations and organisational and national guidance and policy documents relating to quality of immunisation services.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities in accordance with VUK policies and procedures for best practice.
  • Provide advice and support, including signposting where appropriate, on other missed or due childhood vaccinations for eligible babies who attend the clinic.
  • Escalate issues, risks, and clinical incidents to management, which arise from contract compliance, service delivery, and client safety.
Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Knowledge of vaccine management and the Cold Chain.
    • Car driver with use of a car or the ability to travel between locations with small amounts of equipment.
    • Effective communication skills with children and adults.
  • Qualifications:
    • Registered Nurse (adult or child branch) or Registered Midwife (NMC registered) live on NMC register.
    • MUST have experience in, and be proficient in intradermal vaccination technique. Please note, this is not a training post.
    • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge of PGDs.
    • Undergone safeguarding Children training in the past 2 years to a minimum of level 2, with a willingness to be trained to Level 3.
    • Practical knowledge of National and Local policy relating to NHS routine immunisation schedule.
