Job Summary
The Moray Council is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Chargehand - Funeral Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our burial grounds and funeral services.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out all duties involved in the burial of the dead, including excavation and maintenance of the grounds and their surroundings.
- Provide directions to members of the public and ensure a high level of customer service.
- Operate powered hand tools and plant, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in the training and development of other cemetery operatives.
- Contribute to the development of new procedures and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our funeral services.
Requirements
- Experience of mechanical excavators and a strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Numerate and literate, with accurate record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and carry out heavy manual work.
- Flexible attitude and willingness to work overtime as required.
- Ability to display motivational techniques and plan and prioritize workload.
- Polite and aware of the sensitivity involved in funeral services.
- Satisfactory report from Occupational Health Service.

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to customer service. The role will involve working in all weather conditions and carrying out heavy manual work.
