About the Scottish Ambulance Service
The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) plays a crucial role in the NHS, providing immediate medical assistance and clinical guidance to over 5 million individuals throughout Scotland. Our mission is to deliver the highest standard of care to patients, focusing on preserving life and promoting recovery through a dedicated and compassionate workforce.
Opportunity Overview
We are excited to invite applications for the position of GP Advisors within our Integrated Clinical Hub. This well-established team has been operational for the past two years and consists of a diverse group of clinical advisors, advanced practitioners, and GPs. The hub is responsible for assessing patients who are initially triaged as non-life-threatening but may benefit from further virtual consultations to ensure timely and appropriate care.
Role Responsibilities
As a GP Advisor, you will engage with patients who often present with complex urgent care needs. It is essential to have trained and confident clinicians who can provide patient-centered and value-based care, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting telephone triage and video consultations with patients.
- Providing third-party advice to on-ground staff.
- Determining outcomes that may range from self-care recommendations to potential emergency department conveyance.
- Exploring alternatives to hospital admission for suitable patients.
Work Schedule and Compensation
A variety of shifts are available, including opportunities from Ambulance Control Centres and, once proficient, remote home working. We have a provision of services agreement in place for sessional (ad hoc) work, with pay rates to be discussed with interested candidates. We particularly welcome applications from those who can offer weekend availability, as this is where our current workforce gaps lie.
Commitment to Diversity
The Scottish Ambulance Service is dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within our workforce and eliminating any form of discrimination. We strive for a workforce that is truly representative of society, where every employee feels respected and empowered to perform at their best. Therefore, we encourage applications from all sections of the community.
