Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford Health NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a Clinical Psychology Support Specialist to become a vital member of a distinguished team focused on psychosis research, specifically evaluating an innovative psychological intervention for individuals experiencing distressing auditory hallucinations.

Are you the right fit?

The Talking with Voices II initiative aims to determine the effectiveness of a new dialogical therapy in fostering recovery and alleviating distress for those who hear voices. This role presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with a national team in the implementation and assessment of this therapy as part of a multi-site randomized controlled trial. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and ongoing supervision to facilitate the execution of essential trial responsibilities: engaging participants, obtaining informed consent, and assisting patients in completing trial evaluations. Insights gained from this research will contribute to the development of NHS services.

The project is spearheaded by Dr. Eleanor Longden and Prof. Tony Morrison from the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, with Dr. Bryony Sheaves and Prof. Daniel Freeman leading the Oxford trial site. The selected candidate will join the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) research team, under the guidance of Professor Freeman.

Important Note: Previous applicants who have been assessed for a similar position within the last six months need not submit an application.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Psychology Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting participants for the Oxford trial site.
  • Facilitating informed consent and assisting patients in completing various trial assessments.
  • Engaging with individuals who are experiencing distressing auditory hallucinations.

You will participate in individual supervision sessions with a clinical psychologist based in Oxford and will be expected to meet critical milestones for the trial, including participant recruitment targets. You will promote the trial to NHS mental health teams, with support from the trial's clinical psychologist. Additionally, you will contribute to the Trust's social inclusion initiatives by fostering an environment that supports staff, service users, and caregivers from diverse backgrounds within the Talking with Voices trial.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Candidates must possess a degree in psychology (or an equivalent qualification) and demonstrate:

  • A solid understanding of the psychological aspects of auditory hallucinations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with patients in secondary mental health care.
