Waste Management Stream Supervisor

Position Overview:
We are looking for a part-time Waste Stream Coordinator to assist our facilities team in managing and auditing waste streams at Thorlabs Ltd, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Working Schedule: PART TIME – 30 hours per week distributed over 4 to 5 days – onsite.

Key Qualifications:

· Proven experience in waste stream coordination within a manufacturing setting, including handling hazardous materials.

· An industry-recognized qualification in waste management is essential.

· Familiarity with health and safety standards in a heavy goods manufacturing context.

· Understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to apply them effectively.

· Strong communication skills to influence and engage with team members and manage projects.

· Forklift operation experience is preferred, or willingness to undergo training.

Work Environment:

You will be based in our newly constructed facility, which is well-connected by public transport.

Responsibilities:

· Ensure adherence to all relevant waste stream legislation.

· Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, Internal Logistics, and Facilities teams to drive continuous improvement in waste management processes.

· Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of waste stream processes.

· Maintain necessary documentation related to waste management.

· Oversee waste storage areas to ensure they are well-maintained and correctly labeled.

· Implement ongoing training initiatives to raise awareness of proper waste stream practices among colleagues.

· Work with key internal waste generators to identify opportunities for waste reduction at the source.

· Utilize Visual Management Systems to communicate the status of waste streams to stakeholders.

· Manage contractors as needed, ensuring cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

· Collaborate with the Facilities Technician to ensure proper handling of waste in production.

· Lead projects aimed at improving waste management practices to minimize environmental impact.
