We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist to join our team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a qualified clinical/counselling psychology or psychotherapy service to cancer patients, as part of the Adult Psychological Support Service, within a specialist cancer treatment centre.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a range of interventions to support patients and those affected by cancer across the lifespan, including individual therapy and groups.
  2. Work within the highly specialised area of psych-oncology to provide appropriate psychological assessments, based upon the use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources.
  3. Integrate with the psychological formulation specialist knowledge of complex mental health disorders.
  4. Undertake risk assessment and risk management, where appropriate, in regards to patients and provide advice to other professionals.
  5. Act as co-ordinator to ensure adequate provision of care for the patients and their relatives needs, communicating effectively with the patient, his/her family and all others involved in the network of care.

Person Specification:

  • Post-Graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS.
  • Registration with Health Care Professions Council OR Master's Degree training in psychotherapy.
  • Accredited with UK psychotherapy professional body, e.g. UK Council for Psychotherapy, British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Desirable:

  • Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of clinical practice, e.g. including CBT, ACT, CFT, mindfulness based approaches, EMDR, solution focused/systemic approaches.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across a range of physical and mental health care settings, including outpatient, community and inpatient settings.
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist/psychotherapist with patients with cancer or a life limiting illness.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams within a hospital setting, and the ability to form good working relationships.
