About the Role

Peregrine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team as a Principal Mechanical Design Specialist. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing expert mechanical engineering support for the design and development of new innovative designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Provide technical direction to other engineers and technicians to develop innovative ideas into detailed schemes, including risk reduction and qualification testing as required.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead and manage the work of senior and junior mechanical engineers and technicians, taking technical responsibility for design solutions and technical data packs produced.
  • Design Authority: Check and approve datasets (drawings/MBD) ensuring adherence to required standards, reflecting design intent, alongside manufacture and inspection parts.
  • Design Risk Management: Identify, define, and manage work packages to de-risk areas of the product design early on in the lifecycle.
  • Validation and Verification: Use appropriate tools (e.g. DOORS) to validate and verify requirements, managing these through the engineering life cycle.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively across all engineering disciplines, liaising with technical specialists as required.
  • Estimation and Planning: Support the Team Leads, Projects, and Mechanical Functional Managers in preparing estimates for future design activities.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of other qualifications and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer: Meet the requirements of UK-SPEC at the Chartered Engineer Level.
  • Experience: Strong experience of the full product design lifecycle, from concept through to production, within an engineering environment.
  • CAD Skills: Competence in the use of CAD tools to prepare design models.
Desirable Skills
  • Specialized Knowledge: Experience related to areas including avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, anthropometrics, design with composites, additive layer manufacture, and test and measurement equipment.
  • Analysis Tools: Capability to use specialist dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis tools, including validation of the output of these tools.
  • Leadership: Experience in leading a mechanical, or cross-discipline, design team.
  • Clearance: Existing, or previous, SC level clearance.
  • CAD Systems: Proficiency in the CREO CAD system, and experience using TeamCenter, DOORs, and JIRA.
