About the Role:

The Independent Chair Service (ICS) is a critical component of our organization, providing independent reviewing of care plans for looked after children, child protection plans, Care Leavers, and plans for children in need subject to supervision orders.

As a key member of our Strategic Safeguarding and Independent Review Group, you will be responsible for coordinating and chairing Looked after Children and Care Leavers reviews across the county, ensuring that the voice of the child is promoted and high-quality practice standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair complex meetings and ensure that the voice of the child is promoted
  • Monitor the performance of the Local Authority's function as a corporate parent and demonstrate independence and challenge
  • Provide social work supervision and support to team members
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the legal framework, regulations, and guidance relating to looked after children/care leavers
  • Define high-quality practice standards to improve outcomes for looked after children

Requirements:

  • Professional social work qualification
  • Minimum of five years post-qualification experience
  • Experience of providing social work supervision and support
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and promote their voice
  • Knowledge of representation and complaints processes/procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
