About the Role: The University of Cambridge is pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Veterinary Medical Practitioner to become part of our supportive veterinary team. This position within University Biomedical Services (UBS) offers a unique internal traineeship program designed to equip you with the essential knowledge and experience to qualify as a Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS).

Key Responsibilities: In collaboration with the NVSs, you will deliver a thorough veterinary service, which includes providing technical guidance and clinical care to a diverse array of animal species housed within our biomedical research facilities. Additionally, you will play a vital role in supporting the Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) process by advising licensees on matters related to animal health and welfare, ensuring adherence to legislative and regulatory standards.

Desirable Qualifications: Familiarity with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and other pertinent legislation regarding the management, import, transport, and export of experimental animals, as well as health surveillance and disease control, is preferred. Experience and understanding of the species utilized and the types of research conducted within the University would also be beneficial.

Contract Details: This is a Fixed Term position available for a duration of two years as part of a traineeship aimed at providing the necessary training and experience to achieve full NVS status. Upon appointment, you will assume the responsibilities of a Veterinary Medical Practitioner while following an agreed Training Plan, lasting approximately 12 months, to acquire the required training and expertise for NVS accreditation. Once this is accomplished, you will be elevated to the NVS role, with a salary range of £45,585- £57,696, undertaking the complete duties and responsibilities of an NVS for the remainder of your contract.

Additional Information: Following the acceptance of an employment offer, the successful candidate will need to complete a health assessment and a security clearance.
