Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Able Seafarer/Crane Operator to join our team at Serco Defence. As a key member of our maritime support team, you will be responsible for providing crane operation and maintenance services on our vessels.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy cranes on our vessels, ensuring safe and efficient lifting operations.
  • Manage crane program administration, including planning and coordination of lifting operations.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and certification of lifting gear and inventory.
  • Develop and review lifting plans, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Assist in the development of critical lift plans and audit contractor lifts for vessel compliance.
  • Provide leadership and training to deck crew members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  • Manage deck ratings for lifting operations and system maintenance.
  • Responsible for crane training and assessment of competence.
  • Maintain required Safety, Quality, Environment, and Performance (SQEP) standards for deck crew.
  • Lead by example, promoting a high standard of work ethic and safety awareness.
  • Perform berthing and slipping operations, as well as ship husbandry and operational tasks.
  • Assist in repair and maintenance of ship's equipment, including machinery care and lubrication.
  • Be fully conversant with safety equipment, emergency procedures, and contingency plans.
  • Aware of the company's Safety Management System, including Permit to Work/Tag Out Systems, Shipboard Management Team, and Shipboard Safety Committee.

Requirements

  • MCA Certificate of Competency as an Able Seafarer.
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques (5 Year Refresher Course).
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (5 Year Refresher Course).
  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (5 Year Refresher Course).
  • STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (5 Year Refresher Course).
  • STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (5 Year Refresher Course).
  • STCW Elementary First Aid.
  • Unrestricted ENG1.
  • Offshore Crane operator, stages 1,2 or 3 Preferred.
  • Passport.
  • Methodical in approach.
  • Good standard of education.
