Your Role

As a Lead Marine Technician, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our lifeboats, including the Shannon Class and D Class, and their associated equipment are maintained to the highest standards. You will also manage the Lifeboat Station effectively and assist in training volunteer crew members, ensuring that everyone is well-prepared for emergency situations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Inspiring and guiding your team; facilitating their growth, conducting training sessions, and sharing your expertise.
  • Engaging with the public to promote the work of the station.

About You

You will possess the ability to forge strong relationships with volunteers, local supporters, and RNLI staff, acting as an ambassador for the station and the RNLI within the community.

We are looking for candidates who either hold or are willing to work towards the necessary qualifications and competencies for this role.

If you do not meet every requirement outlined in the job specification, we still encourage you to apply, as we value diverse experiences that may align with our needs.

A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn are paramount.

You should be self-motivated, capable of working independently as well as part of a team, eager to tackle challenges, and committed to personal development while supporting others in their growth.

You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate open and inclusive relationships. You should take pride in your work and be receptive to feedback.
To qualify for the position of Lead Marine Technician at Sheerness Lifeboat Station, you will need:

  • Knowledge and experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines. An engineering background is essential.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities, with the ability to motivate and maximize team potential.
  • The potential to qualify as an RNLI ALB Afloat Mechanic.
  • Experience in a Lifeboat Mechanic role or similar, with a willingness to develop skills in other seagoing duties.

If you are prepared for an exciting new challenge as our Lead Marine Technician at Sheerness, and if you consider yourself a natural leader who can inspire and motivate a team of dedicated volunteers, we look forward to your application.

Safeguarding
The RNLI is committed to safeguarding and ensuring the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

All prospective employees and volunteers will undergo suitability assessments during the recruitment process in line with this commitment.

Our staff and volunteers have been dedicated to saving lives at sea for nearly 200 years, without prejudice.

We value the diversity of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives within our teams, as it is essential for delivering a world-class lifesaving service.

We are an inclusive organization and welcome applications from all individuals. In addition to the necessary skills for the role, we seek applicants who share our commitment to embodying RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable) and contributing to our vision of saving every one.
